The cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin peaked a few days ago, and Mother Nature has kindly not yet blown or drowned them off their branches. So, being a 20+ year D.C. native, and having suffered a one-hour-to-go-two-miles commute to the 14th Street bridge on Thursday evening, I packed up the girls just after 6 a.m. this morning and headed downtown.
I was not the only one with this idea.
Even so, the blossoms and views of the Capitol, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument and Martin Luther King Memorial were beautiful.
Romance was in the air, as well. We saw two proposals, and one bride.
And even managed to take a nice “family” picture, despite the ducks distracting my oh-so-attentive Retrievers…
There were lots of other dogs, and the loop around the Tidal Basin is paved and an easy stroll. But, if you want to get to see the cherry blossoms this year, go early, and go soon. It’s supposed to rain all day Tuesday.
