Many people have annual traditions for their holiday celebrations. One of mine is the Scottish Walk parade in Old Town Alexandria.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the streets of historic Old Town will be filled with pipe and drum bands, men and women in kilts and assorted plaid finery, and lots of dog breed and rescue groups.
There are more than 100 groups marching, including Golden Retriever Rescue, Education and Training (GRREAT), the D.C. Area Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Group, the National Capital Bearded Collie Club, the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Washington D.C., and always a crowd favorite, the Mid Atlantic Scottish Deerhounds.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sunshine, temperatures in the mid-50s, and zero percent chance of rain—perfect parade weather!
The event is dog-friendly, as are many Old Town businesses, so feel free to bring your pup. Be forewarned, however, that it is crowded and noisy, so if throngs of people, bagpipes, or gunfire scare Fido, think about leaving him at home.
