“Every Dog Has its Day” is a fundraiser of the Art Options program of the St. John’s Community Services-DC, where you can order a commissioned portrait of your pet that will be painted by an artist supported by St. John’s.
The artists will paint animals of all shapes and sizes in abstract or realistic style (your choice) from a photograph that you upload on their website. All pieces are original art and will be acrylic on canvas, and pet owners are welcome to make special requests in the comments section.
A variety of sizes from 11″x16″ to 30″x30″ are available in prices ranging from $100 to $275. Seventy percent of each commission goes directly to the artist while the remainder purchases supplies for the program.
Believe me, that’s a bargain for an original artwork featuring your pet. I have an oil painting of a much-beloved and sadly no longer with us Golden that I bartered a summer of horseback riding lessons for. If our house ever went up in flames, it would be the third thing I grabbed on my way out the door—after Chatham and Sundae, of course!

All the pet portraits will be displayed in July and August at the at the Pepco Gallery Place in Washington, D.C., with a special Every Dog Has Its Day Exhibit and Reception on July 18.
