It’s about time! The weather has finally gotten warm, flowers and trees are blooming, and there are dog-friendly events in the Washington, D.C.-area nearly every weekend for you to get out and enjoy spring with you furry best friend. Here are just a few coming up in the month of May:
Reston Pet Fiesta on Saturday, May 4
Join local pet businesses, animal rescue groups and other pet owners for a day of activities, demonstrations and adopable pets animals at the Reston Pet Fiesta at Reston Town Center from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This outdoor festival features onstage entertainment, face painting and caricature artists, as well as shopping. There is also a Tails on Trails scenic dog walk along the W&OD trail, sidewalks & footpaths to raise money to help homeless dogs find forever homes.
The walk begins at 10:00 am, the fee for the walk is a $20 donation to gooddogz.org, and you can register online.
Walk for the Animals on Saturday, May 11
Hundreds of animal lovers will stroll through scenic Bluemont Park in Arlington to show their support for the Animal Welfare League of Arlington during the 18th Annual Walk for the Animals. This is the largest fundraising event of the year for Arlington County’s only humane society. Walkers can choose between a three-mile walk or one-mile stroll through the park followed by a festival of entertainment, pet-friendly businesses and animal resources.
The cost is $25 for pre-registration (March 1-May 10th), or $40 for onsite registration. Pre-registered walkers get a t-shirt and pet bandana. Register online.
The walk begins at 9:30 am, check-in and on-site registration begin at 8:30 am.

Run for the Animals on Sunday, May 19
If you want a faster pace, head up to Silver Spring, Md., for the 10th Annual Run for the Animals at Wheaton Regional Park. Hosted by Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary There will be running and walking on scenic trails, dog and people raffles, prizes, and a catered breakfast in celebration of the 10th anniversary.
Important: you can’t bring your dog on the 5K run, but they are welcome on the one mile walk.
The registration fee is $28.00 for the 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk for pre-registration, and $30.00 on the day of the race. Register online.
Don’t forget about the Washington Nationals’ Pups in the Park game on Saturday, May 11, and the Potomac Nationals Bark in the Park game on Sunday, May 5.
