Chris Cooley helps animals Oct. 6

Former Washington Redskin Chris Cooley is hosting a fundraiser to benefit Friends of Homeless Animals at his Leesburg art gallery this Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Chris, along with several of the gallery’s featured artists, have crafted one-of-a-kind pet food bowls to sell at the fundraiser.

Check out this funny video featuring Chris talking about the event while he creates a bowl under the watchful (well, kind of) eyes of his two FOHA-rescue mutts, Chewy and Moose:

Even though I’m not a Redskins fan (that’s a Buffalo Bills cap I’m sporting on the “About” page of this blog), I love this guy. I can see why he was such a fan favorite for his lack of ego and generosity, and most of all his sense of humor. Cooley played tight end for the Redskins for eight seasons, but was released in August and is now a free agent.

In addition to the pottery, there will be other pet-related art for sale, music, food, Redskins memorabilia items and Chris is raffling a Cooley game jersey.

FOHA, one of Northern Virginia’s original no-kill animal rescues, will be marking its 40th year of saving abused, abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs in 2013. FOHA typically houses 100 dogs and 50 cats at its facility in Aldie, Va., which is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Cooley Gallery is at 12 S. King Street in Leesburg, Va.
